Mike Schmidt, born in 1949, was a dominant force in Major League Baseball from 1972 until his retirement in 1989. Primarily playing as a third baseman, Schmidt spent his entire career with the Philadelphia Phillies, where he became one of the most prolific power hitters of his era.
