Sammy Sosa
Full Player Profile →
Sammy Sosa’s peak power output is among the most explosive we’ve ever seen from an outfielder. He hit 609 home runs and produced three separate 60-homer seasons, which is outrageous volume. His offensive value wasn’t just home runs; he drove in runs at elite rates and carried lineups for long stretches. Sosa did strike out and didn’t live at the very top of OBP leaderboards, but the damage was constant. In the late 1990s, he was a nightly threat to change the game with one swing. His peak seasons created a level of run production few right fielders can match. He also produced solid seasons outside the absolute peak, giving him more staying power than a brief flash-in-the-pan slugger. When evaluating offense-first, the magnitude of his top seasons matters enormously. Even if the profile is more volatile than the top-tier OBP monsters, the upside is historic. As a power-driven outfield bat, Sosa earns his place comfortably.
